Accessible tertiary education

As a distance learning institution, Ember Academy doesn’t require you to attend any physical classes. But with our world class support systems, you’ll have the best chance at succeeding with us.

Tertiary education has always been a valuable investment for future career opportunities. However, not all tertiary education has accessible to those who have not completed matric, as a result of choice or circumstance. Many institutions which offer valuable degrees and qualifications also require a large investment of time and money. Even if you can afford to pay for tuition, you may still be hindered by the cost of transportation and accommodation or the academic entry requirements.

We at Ember Academy believe that everyone deserves a fair chance at a better future. In South Africa, we’re faced with a very large skill-gap, as fewer people are completing their tertiary studies, or even applying for them, after matric. This means that as there are fewer skilled people in the workplace, a larger number of opportunities become available for those who graduate with a tertiary education.

A Solution To The Problem: Making Tertiary Education Accessible

We’ve worked out a solution which makes the dream of a tertiary qualification more accessible for those without matric. We have worked hard to find a way to offer courses, which you can study with as little as a Grade 9 certificate. These endeavours led us to The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB).

The ICB offers courses which are aimed at equipping you for a career path that offers a wide variety of opportunities. These courses are part of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), and are also accredited by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). However, they are only accredited examination partner of SAQA, and do not offer tuition for the courses. That’s where we come in.

We offer the ICB Financial Accounting Course starts at NQF level 3, which is equivalent to Grade 10, including tuition and support. Because the course is a high school, Grade 10 equivalent, you can use it to bridge the gap in your education to study one of the other ICB programmes, since you will receive credits for all of the subjects you complete. Studying this course with us also means that you can work while you study. As a distance learning institution, Ember Academy doesn’t require you to attend any physical classes. But with our world class support systems, you’ll have the best chance at succeeding with us.

The greatest benefit of this course is that after completing the NQF level 3 certificate, you will have a recognised qualification which you can carry with you into the South African job market. The ICB has been around for more than 80 years, working constantly to improve the skills of bookkeepers and accountants both locally and abroad. They are a respected institution, and their qualification have real world value when you’re starting your career or working to take it to the next level.
